Park Fun Facts

Sorry, I've been busy with a number of things and haven't had time to post, so I'll just post some basic facts and you can interpret them anyway you want. The parks data comes from the Portland Parks website.

**Conservative, back-of-the envelope estimate assuming an average of 50 daily dog visits to each of the 132 neighborhood parks plus Forest Park (25+ undeveloped parks omitted, walkways and other public areas (such as the Esplanade and Tom McCall Waterfront Park) and natural areas also omitted. For most parks, the number of visits are much, much greater.

I saw that $100,000 first-year expense too in some article I read. But I think that's just slick accounting tricks, cause it's got to be a lot more than that if you do the math. If you assume that each of these hired thugs, I mean, park rangers makes minimum wage (and you know they make a lot more than that) then that comes up to a cost of more than $25,000 per month. Add social security payments, city benefits, etc. and you've got about $100,000 for only THREE MONTHS, not one year. And then there are the trucks, walkie-talkies, uniforms, etc.

This is a VERY expensive undertaking and as a tax payer it makes me mad! Is this the best way to spend our money??? I'd like to see them spend some of that money finding out who's trying to kill and hurt dogs and children at parks. but I'm sure THAT won't happen!

I didn't vote for the tax increase a year ago so they could spend it to harass me.
